5.7 x 28 deformed rims

It has come to our attention that 5.7 x 28 brass is now potentially fully annealed from case mouth to rim.  This causes many issues with the reloading process.

Our suggestion is to use LEE Resizing Lubricant and our FN shell holder. The rims are so soft that they cannot be resized with a standard universal shell holder, as the brass rims deform, and are pushed down into the .260" relief hole, that is used for priming.  We have introduced a FN shell holder #92183 for resizing this brass.  The FN shellholder cannot be used to re-prime brass, you will need to use the standard #15 shellholder to do this.  We have also seen that the primers are staked or crimped into position.  This maybe due to the brass being so soft, that it does not have the ability to hold the primer into position, via a slight press fit.

The quick trim die uses a plastic bushing to provide a slight interference fit on the body of the cartridge to hold it stationary while trimming.  This new brass is so soft, the plastic bushing is deforming the brass.  If this happens to you, return your die body to the factory at the address below, and we will ream the bushing out to the largest allowable dimension to prevent damage to these soft cases.
