One of our customer's, Mr. Storey, developed this application to run on Windows XP and newer machines that gives a visual representation of how to adjust your Micrometer Charge Bar. He has offered to share it with the rest of our customers.

Version 1.2.1 can be downloaded from this link: LeeVMDHelper1.2.1.exe

Note for Windows 7 (64 bit system) users:

When attempting to run this application, you receive error "Component 'mscomctl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file missing or is invalid"
This issue occurs, even when you right click the program in the Start Menu and choose 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' (which sets the program to run in Properties > Compatibility to Windows XP
with Service Pack 2).

Summary:

- MSCOMCTL.OCX is a set of 32-bit controls that were provided with the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 programming environment
- The Adjustable Charge Bar Application is written in Visual Basic 6.0

Notice:

Mainstream Support for Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 ended on March 31, 2005. Microsoft is releasing this package that is unrelated to security because it contains improvements that were ready for release just before the end of Mainstream Support. Visual Basic 6.0 has transitioned to Extended Support, and Extended Support runs through March 31, 2008. Microsoft is not extending the Mainstream Support phase for Visual Basic 6.0 in any way.

- To use 32-bit controls like MSCOMCTL.OCX on a 64-bit version of Windows 7 they have to be installed and registered in: C:\Windows\SysWOW64 to run in the "WOW [Windows on Windows] emulation environment
- If you go to your C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory and DO NOT see MSCOMCTL.OCX already in there - download this here - http://activex.microsoft.com/controls/vb6/mscomctl.cab AND SAVE IT TO YOUR LOCAL DISK C:\ (if you DO NOT save this file here, this next step will fail). If you are prompted with Destination Folder Access Denied Message, choose Continue (you may have to enter credentials if you do not have Administrative rights on your computer or PC!)

- You must now EXPAND these files (from the CAB file you just downloaded) into the correct folder. This is NOT an issue with Microsoft or Windows, just that this program is almost ten years old!

Browse to your command prompt shortcut via Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->Command Prompt. Right click on that Command Prompt icon and choose to Run as administrator. Click Yes to tell UAC you really want to run it.

When the black window opens with your command prompt, type this in:

cd<push spacebar>C:\ <push Enter key>
expand<push spacebar>C:\mscomctl.cab<push spacebar>-F:*<push spacebar>C:\Windows\SysWOW64<push Enter key> (PLEASE NOT THAT THERE IS A MINUS SYMBOL BEFORE THE F)

IF SUCCESSFUL YOU WILL SEE
Expanding Files Complete ...
2 files total.

DO NOT CLOSE THIS WINDOW YET

- Go to your C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory and see if MSCOMCTL.OCX is present - then complete this final step:

Browse to your command prompt shortcut via Start-->All Programs-->Accessories-->Command Prompt. Right click on that Command Prompt icon and choose to Run as administrator. Click Yes to tell UAC you really want to run it.

When the black window opens with your command prompt, type this in:

cd<push spacebar>C:\Windows\SysWOW64 <push Enter key>

The prompt should change to: C:\Windows\SysWOW64

Then type:

regsvr32<push spacebar>mscomctl.ocx <push Enter key>

If you get a Window that pops up and says, "DllRegisterServer in mscomctl.ocx succeeded" then click OK

THE ADJUSTABLE CHARGE BAR PROGRAM SHOULD NOW WORK. If it doesn't - please right click the program and select 'Troubleshoot Compatibility'. Windows will detect there is a problem and inform you that
the program needs to run in 'Windows XP Service Pack 2' mode to function. You can manually choose this by right clicking and choosing Properties > Compatibility and manually selecting this as well.
