Plastic Melter Pot Temperature Range

Our plastic melting pot is an adaptation of our lead melting pot. As such, it is not capable of regulating temperature to a high degree of precision.

The melting pot is very usable, but warming to operating temperature requires some attention by the user. We suggest starting with the temperature control set to the lowest setting allow the pot to preheat for 20 minutes. Then increase the control to the mid point carefully monitoring the temperature to be sure it does not overheat. Now adjust the temperature control in very small increments to your desired temperature.

You can eliminate all this fiddly adjustment by installing a light dimmer in the circuit. The below photos show a simple control box made from standard electrical supplies found at any hardware store. If you plug an incandescent lamp into the second outlet you have a nice visual display of the power setting. With the light dimmer switch simply set the temperature control at maximum and control the temperature with the light dimmer switch dial setting.
