Head Space - Case will not Chamber

The first thing to check is make sure the sizing die is set correctly in the press.  With the ram all the way up and the shell holder in place, screw the die in until it touches the shell holder.  Lower the ram, and give the die an additional 1/3 turn.  Tighten the lock ring.  Apply some LEE Resizing Lubricant to the case.  Raise the ram all the way to the stop.

If a case resized in this manner will not chamber, return the die, 3 fired cases, and one resized case to the factory.  We will modify the die to minimum head space for you.

A suggestion from a customer 8-1-2024:

Another technique you can try is to rub the case down with a black permanent marker. Attempt to chamber the case a few times, be mindful of how the case is clocked each time - keep it consistent. For example, keep the "8" in "308" on the casehead pointed at 3 o'clock each time. When attempting to chamber, put a bit of force on it, but don't FORCE it. You will hopefully get a rub mark on where the brass needs sizing. Again, verify the sizing die is screwed in until it touches the shell holder, lower the ram and give the die an additional 1/3 turn. Insert brass into shell holder, and size. Keep adjusting the die in 1/8th of a turn increments, and testing the brass in your rifle. If it will not chamber freely, return the sizing die and 3 fired cases and 1 resized case to the factory for headspace adjustment.
