Supplies needed:

Powder coat paint [Eastwood, Prismatic Powders, “Smoke4320” from CastBoolits.gunloads.com, Harbor Freight] (Glossy finishes & polyester-based powders work best)

Polypropylene container (#5 recycling, commonly found in household food storage containers)

Non-stick parchment paper or Non-stick aluminum foil

Baking sheet

Oven (Countertop toaster oven dedicated to powder coating recommended)

Strainer (Metal preferred)

Steps

Always follow safety instructions found on powder coat paint container.

  1. Cast bullets
  2. Add 30 to 100 bullets in container (depending on container and bullet size)
  3. Add about ½ to 1 tsp powder coat paint to container (better to start with too little, than too much)
  4. Cover then swirl & shake container (30 seconds swirl, 30 seconds shake or until bullets are fully coated, add powder if not fully covered and no loose powder in your container)
  5. Pour bullets through strainer to remove excess powder. (Do this over newspaper or another container to save powder)
  6. Dump bullets on covered baking sheet.
  7. Bake in oven for 15-20 minutes @ 400 degrees Fahrenheit (do not exceed 425 degrees, use thermometer to verify)

TIPS

  • Use nitrile gloves, metal tweezers, or dip fingers in powder if you are going to handle the bullets before baking. Bare hands or incorrect gloves will remove powder from bullets while handling.

  • Low humidity environment will improve results. The powder coat paint is using static electricity to stick to the bullets.
